Hot Dogs Bensenville

Hot Dogs Bensenville

Hot dogs are descended from a German sausage, the frankfurter, that was brought over to America. It was popularized as a working-class food that was sold on street corners and by carts around businesses. As their popularity grew so did their variety. Like most sausages, the original hot dogs were made by putting meat into a casing, but in 1925 in Chicago Erwin O. Freund invented a process for skinless hot dogs. Now, most consumer hot dogs are caseless, and it is easy to tell the difference. If a hot dog has a case on it when you bite into the hot dog if there is a snap. One thing that makes them unique is the fact that hot dogs, especially caseless hot dogs, are cooked when they are created, but the best way to eat a hot dog is always steaming hot and on a fresh bun. The hot dog bun has also undergone a change over the years, much like the hot dog itself. Hot dog buns were a small loaf of bread that was intended to just hold the hot dog while eating, and not to be consumed with the hot dog. Over the years with softer bread being used, eating the hot dog and the bun at the same time became the popular way to eat them. The original reason that the bread was used was to keep your hand clean and to soak up any juices that were dripping off.

Chicago Hot Dog Bensenville

One of the most famous styles of a hot dog is the Chicago Hot Dog. All beef, poppy seed bun, topped with yellow mustard, chopped white onions, bright green sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato slices, pickled sport peppers and a dash of celery salt. The Chicago Hot Dog stands out among the rest because of the piled high toppings. While the Coney Island dog might have been the first, the Chicago is arguably the best. Though there is a topping that can cause quite a division between Chicagoans, Ketchup. Typically allowed on the south side of Chicago, just don’t mention it when you go near the north side or suburbs closest to the city.

Hot Dog Stand Bensenville

One of the most iconic images that people think of when they hear hot dogs are hot dog stands. Hot Dog Stands started up soon after hot dogs became popular. Typically mobile with large wheels, the hot dog stand was the original version of the food truck that you may see driving around today and stopped outside industrial buildings and work sites. The stand is typically loaded with common toppings for the area they are located in. While they have died down in recent years, you can still find one every so often at different spots. Typically at special events or areas that have an old time feel to them like theme parks or historic districts of towns. The other iconic way to get a hot dog is a little more intensive for the vendor. These are the guys at sporting events carrying around the large box full of Hot Dogs. It is a unique experience to be watching a game when you hear a vendor approach. Yelling the name of what he is selling, the skill of communicating long range with the vendor.
